Frequently Asked Questions:

Do your FCEs hold up to legal scrutiny and litigation?

Because all of our FCE providers use computerized equipment with horizontal validity, co-efficient of variation and validity protocols embedded in the FCE and the data, they will withstand every judicial challenge and have.

In order to avoid any possibility of legal scrutiny an FCE MUST contain the following:

  • validity measurements
  • a medical records review
  • a correlation between effort and heart rate
  • a correlation between pain responses vs heart rate
  • computerized protocols
  • a job description as a basis for developing the testing protocol if the FCE is to determine return to work status.

All of the FCE 's performed through Impact Medical adhere to a strict testing protocol that includes all of the above mentioned items.

Do your PTs continually ensure their equipment is calibrated?

At Impact Medical we only accept providers who utilize specific testing protocols into the network. All of those protocols require that the equipment be calibrated prior to every use or the software will not operate properly. The Physical Therapist's interpretation of the results is very much dependent on accurate calibration.

All FCE reports go through a strict QA process to determine that all the testing has been performed correctly, the data is consistent and that the referral question has been answered, such as " can the injured worker return to his pre-accident job on a full time basis. "
